Marianne Kenny
Marianne studied jewellery and art metal work in St Johns Central College, Cork and went on to study sculpture in Limerick School of Art and Design focusing in areas of found objects and casting. Further studies took her to the |National College of Art & Design and to a place on the DCCI’s renowned Jewellery Skills & Design Course where she honed her skills as a goldsmith.
Marianne now designs and hand makes jewellery in her studio on the side of a mountain in Ballina, Tipperary.
Drawn to the creativity and process in the manipulation of metal into tangible wearable forms, Marianne creates jewellery that is modern, contemporary, bold yet comfortable for everyday wear. She enjoys the juxtaposition of rough textures and clean lines with the inclusion of gemstones and pearls. Cityscapes influence her designs with inspiration coming from Brutalist architecture of her home city and the Bauhaus architecture abroad. A small detail within the framework of a building can spark imagination and generate ideas for pieces of wearable art.
