Delphine Grandjouan
Having originally studied philosophy, it is little wonder that self taught fashion designer Delphine Grandjouan puts the essence of beauty before the vagaries of fashion. She believes that good design, from whatever era, can be appreciated for its eternal and universal beauty.
For Delphine there are two key inspirations – dance and drama – as expressed in the freedom of the ‘20s and the glamour of the ‘50s.
These are interpreted directly in the flow and the exploration of volume and structure in her designs. Her choice of fabrics reflect and accentuate these elements – floating silk chiffons, shimmering satins, soft alluring crepes, delicate lace or structured duchesses, majestic taffetas and rich deep velvets.
Sculpting, draping, sometimes hand painting she works towards an evolution in shape and an ever purer expression as she seeks to make a woman discover ‘her untarnished self for just a little while’. Delphine Granjouan’s style is witty tenderness, mixed with a hint of sharp purity and an elegant sense of simplicity.
This spirit translates directly in the way she handcrafts and reworks her original award winning bridal designs and collection of little black dresses for each individual customer, that she sees privately by appointment both in Kerry and Dublin, Ireland.
